Teakwood and white lava sand make this beautiful turning globe a real stunning sculpture. Made from a whole piece of wood the way the sculpture is shaped is defined by how the tree grew. Sitting on a turning base the sculpture can spin silently around, so that all angles can be admired at any time.
Bruno Helgen studied at the National School of Fine Arts of Epinal. Until 1986, he worked as a photographer for the collective Press Agency. He worked in film production before starting his career in the design industry in 1995.
Helgen Globes are fashioned out of ancient recycled teak and tamarind heartwood as well as state of the art resins. For his black globes, the artist uses volcanic sand from the black beaches of Northern Bali.
His work is favored by private collectors and commercial organizations, such as Louis Vuitton, around the world. Bruno Helgen’s design uses local wood from Bali like teak or walnut and the final shape of the globe is adjusted to the beauty and the imperfections of the piece of wood. These sculptures come to life with a variety of materials such as volcanic sand, lacquer and metals.
