Apelsin - Jonathan Howard
Artist: Jonathan Howard
Medium: Oil on canvas
About the painting:
I've always been interested in subverting certain notions of classical portraiture. This often means cropping bodies haphazardly in the frame and including seemingly random objects such as bottles of water. In this painting the two women represent opposite moods.
One serene and sensual the other awkwardly hunched over and unable to relax in the harsh gaze of the sun. The colour palette is designed to accentuate the sensation of heat and separation. With darker tones and blues strategically placed over the soft red volumes so that the eye dances all over the forms.
